This is a follow up post from the previous guide to watch Netflix in Singapore. For those who are still new to Netflix, it is an online provider that allows you to watch unlimited movies for a monthly charge. Currently, they have a free 1 month trial where you can cancel anytime at no cost. After the trial, Netflix monthly subscription cost $7.99 USD per month. Still a great steal.
So once you have set up your VPN, just select your home country as USA. From there, you can access your Netflix home page. If you see the page with options to sign up(above image), congrats, you are on the right path so far.
You will be asked to key in your login details, namely an email address, User name and also a password. Keep these information in somewhere handy. After which, you will be brought to the payment page. This is where you take note of the following.
You can make payment for Netflix using either of the 2 modes:
Netflix Payment modes
1) Using a Singapore Credit Card.
Use a valid Singapore Credit card. Key in all the information and when you are asked to key in the billing address, use a US address. The easiest way is to use your Borderlinx US address. If you do not have a Borderlinx account, just sign up for one. (Simple guide provided below) It takes 5 minutes and its free.
2) Using a Paypal account.
If you are using an existing Paypal account, make sure your name at Netflix matches the name on Paypal, otherwise it will not work. Once they match, just make payment normally. Paypal is very secure in their system, so using this method requires more effort in answering security questions and verifications.
In Singapore, you can easily set up a Paypal account using DBS internet banking. They have an option of transferring funds to your Paypal account.
Preferred method: Credit card.
Using the credit card method is a much simpler process to sign up for Netflix. And for the first month, you will not be charged any amount. Thereafter it will cost roughly about $10.50 SGD per month.
Signing up for Borderlinx.
Borderlinx is a popular shipment concierge for Singaporeans to shop and import items from the US and UK. So if you see some great Amazon DVDs on sale, you purchase and then use borderlinx to ship them over. To sign up for Netflix, you need a US address. To do so, you can just sign up with Borderlinx, and instantly, you will be provided with a US address. (Side note: Amazon is providing free 30 days Instant Videos, see post)
Why not just look for some address in the US in google maps?
It is a billing information we are talking about. So I prefer to let it be handled by Borderlinx for the added security. But still, it is your choice.
That is all the information you need to get a new account with Netflix if you stay in Singapore or work here. Though the said method above is for signing up Netflix in Singapore, you can use the same method to sign up for Netflix outside US.
Enjoy your unlimited movies.
