Once you are able to sign up and get access to Netflix in Singapore, the following guide will help you properly set it up to watch Netflix movies on your iPad, iPhone, laptop and Galaxy tablet or smartphone. All these takes less than 10 minutes if you follow closely. In the following guide, I use HMA as an example for easy illustration.
Watching Netflix on your laptop
Using the previous guide, you should just launch the HMA VPN and select USA as your country. Use “Singapore – Virtual USA” as far as possible as this usually provides the best speed available. Once you get connected, head over to Netflix website and sign in your account details.
Should you use Mozilla, Chrome or Internet Explorer to watch Netflix?
I find that watching Netflix movies on the Chrome or Internet Explorer browsers the easiest as you will be able to watch movies right away. My preference is Chrome since I find navigation and loading faster.
However if you are using Mozilla then you might need to follow these steps:
- Allow the Silverlight app in order to watch Netflix on your browser.
- Turn off private browsing if this was your default option.
Setting your Netflix screen resolution
You can toggle between the screen resolution and buffer rate using the Stream Manager. Hold down ALT , Shift keys and left click on the screen to call up the window (Alternatively, you can HOLD down ALT, Shift and Control and the letter “S”). Selecting Stream Manager will bring up the screen for you to select the stream quality and buffer rate. For a higher resolution, it will take more buffer time and vice versa.
Watching Netflix on iPad / iPhone / Tablet & Smartphone
To start watching Netflix on your smartphone, you first need to create your vpn settings for your phone. The illustration is for Android, but you can work the same way using Iphone. Make sure you set up the vpn settings on your smartphone first before downloading the Netflix app to your phone.
1) Get your IP address
Sign up to your HMA main page and navigate to settings page (https://vpn.hidemyass.com/vpncontrol/signin)
From there, you will be able to see the various countries log in options. Select “Virtual USA – Singapore” or any US location. Copy the IP address.
2) Get the User Name and Password
On the same page, you can see your username and password. This is different from your HMA login for security reasons. Copy this information somewhere.
3) Add a VPN setting to your smartphone
Click on VPN, under your phone settings, and add the details that you have copied on steps #1 and #2.
Name: Just any name you would like to call. VPN 1 or just any name you wish.
Type: Use PPTP
Server address: This is the IP address you got on step 1
Username: Details from step 2
Password: Details from step 2
4) Download the Netflix app and start watching
Once you hit connect, you will be able to download and install the Netflix app to your smartphone without problems. After the app is downloaded, you can watch movies on your smartphone.
5) Error message: “Netflix not available”
If you face this error message, there is a good chance you are not connected to the VPN on your smartphone. Check the connections and it should work.
Hope that this guide will help you to quickly set up your Netflix account and watch between the various devices that you own. If you are using your phone data, keep a lookout for your data usage while watching movies on the go. Let me hear your comments in the section as well. Cheers!
